The Green Bay Packers visit Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday to play the Chicago Bears in the opening game of the 2019 NFL regular season for both.
The Packers are returning from a disappointing 6-9-1 season and have a new head coach in Matt LaFleur. Aaron Rodgers returns under center and will look early and often to his favorite target wide receiver Davante Adams. The Packers lack a strong second receiver but expect Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Geromino Allison to see plenty of action. At running back Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams will see plenty of playing time. The Packers defense will be strong at linebacker with Za’Darius Smith.
Chicago was 12-4 last season and won the NFC North. The Bears addition of all-world defensive star Khalil Mack was instrumental in Chicago reaching the postseason and the defense remains the strength of the team. Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky is still not proven himself to be a top-flight signal caller. Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel along with Anthony Miller return as the top receivers. David Montgomery was drafted to be the next Bears running back while Tarik Cohen plays in the backfield in special situations. The bottom line is the Bears success will depend upon their defense.

Aaron Rodgers threw for 4,442 yards, 25 touchdowns and two interceptions in 2018. The top returning running back is Aaron Jones with 728 yards and eight touchdowns last season. Davante Adams leads all returning wide receivers with 111 receptions for 1,386 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Mitchell Trubisky threw for 3,223 yards, 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2018. Tarik Cohen is the top rusher returning.
