Wisconsin Badgers vs. South Florida Bulls

NCAAF: 7:00 PM EST

TV: ESPN
Latest Odds : WIS -10.5 Total 57.5

The Wisconsin Badgers are set to visit Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida for a Week 1 clash against the South Florida Bulls. The Wisconsin Badgers will be looking to continue their success from the 2018 season as they went 8-5 with a bowl victory over the Miami Hurricanes in the Pinstripe Bowl. The Badgers will have a new look under center as former starting QB Alex Hornibrook transferred to Florida State. The Wisconsin Badgers shouldn’t be too concerned who is under center as they have a potential Heisman winner in Jonathan Taylor who contributed an astonishing 2194 rushing yards and 16 TDs last season.

The Wisconsin Badgers are usually towards the top of the conference due to their stingy defense, and they will once again be looking to continue that success despite losing some key pieces. The Badgers will have to replace their leading tackler from a season ago as T.J. Edwards moved onto the NFL after contributing 112 tackles and a team-high 3 interceptions. The talent loss doesn’t only stop at Edwards as the top 3 leading tacklers have run out of eligibility, but Zack Baun should step into a bigger role.

The South Florida Bulls are looking to rebound after going 7-6 during the 2018 season, and they will especially try to avoid a late-season collapse like last year as they started 6-0. QB Blake Barnett will need to be more consistent for the USF Bulls as he threw 12 TDs compared to 11 interceptions last season. The Bulls have a very strong ground attack as Jordan Cronkrite contributed 1121 rushing yards and 9 TDs while backup Johnny Ford was responsible for 787 yards and 8 TDs.

The South Florida Bulls will need to be better on the defensive side of the ball this season as they finished 95th in college football in points allowed last year. The Bulls will have to replace their leading tackler from a season ago as Khalid McGee moved on from the team after contributing 111 tackles. USF will return a key piece in the secondary as Nick Roberts will look to step into a bigger role after compiling 3 interceptions and 73 tackles last year.

The Wisconsin Badgers are consistently one of the most underrated teams in college football, but this game concerns me as they lost a ton of defensive talent this past season and they will be going against a very good offense. Blake Barnett was once a 5-star recruit who started for Alabama, and hopefully the Bulls receive some of that production out of the QB. Regardless the Bulls should be able to slash the Badgers on the ground as they will be looking for a consistent tackler as their 3 leading tacklers from 2018 are gone. The USF Bulls will also make it a priority to key in on Jonathan Taylor as the Badgers will have a new QB under center who might not be ready for the spotlight. Final Score Prediction, Wisconsin Badgers win but fail to cover ATS 24-21.
