The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets visit the defending national champion Clemson Tigers on August 29 at Clemson Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina for the opening game of the 2019 college football regular season for both. Georgia Tech has lost each of the last four head-to-head with Clemson. Last season the Yellow Jackets were overwhelmed by the Tigers 49-21.
Lucas Johnson will start at quarterback for the Yellow Jackets. Johnson is mobile but also possesses good pro-style passing skills but no college experience. Jordan Mason returns as the leading rusher from last season. The offensive line lost its best player guard Parker Braun, but has depth. Wide receiver is a big question mark but graduate transfer Tyler Davis was a huge pick up.
Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence will guide Tigers offense, while Travis Etienne returns as the Tigers top running back, with Lyn-J Dixon expected to see plenty of action as well. The Clemson receivers lost two top pass catchers, but are highly-talented nonetheless led by Justyn Ross and Tee Higgins. Four other talented receivers are ready to take center stage as well. Mitch Hyatt and Justin Falcinelli were lost to the offensive line, but Tremayne Anchrum and Jackson Carman will anchor a solid unit.

Lucas Johnson is the starter at quarterback for the Yellow Jackets but does not have any stats at the college level. Jordan Mason rushed for 659 yards and seven touchdowns last season, while Jerry Howard ran for 564 yards and five TDs. The top receiver returning from 2018 is Jalen Camp who caught 11 passes for 186 yards. Transfer Tyler Davis will add experience.
Trevor Lawrence led Clemson last season with 3,280 yards passing, 30 touchdowns and four interceptions. Travis Etienne returns at running back after rushing for 1,658 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2018. Justyn Ross is the top receiver returning from last season. Ross caught 46 passes for 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns in 2018.
