Colorado State Rams vs. Colorado Buffaloes

NCAAF: 10:00 PM EST

TV: ESPN
Latest Odds : COL -11 Total 65

The Colorado State Rams are set to visit Broncos Stadium in Denver, Colorado for a Week 1 clash against the Colorado Buffaloes. The Colorado State Rams are looking to rebound after going 3-9 during the 2018 season, and they will need to replace some talent on the offensive side of the ball. The Rams will have to replace QB K.J. Carta-Samuels who had a fairly good 2018 season with 2261 yards, 19 TDs, and 9 interceptions. The Rams will also be without their leading receiver in Preston Williams who had a monstrous 2018 season with 1345 yards and 14 TDs which leaves a glaring hole on offense.

The Colorado State defense will need to improve a ton if they want to see a change in results as they finished 117th in points allowed during the 2018 season. The Rams will have to move on without their leading tackler from 2018 as Josh Watson graduated after contributing 130 tackles. Colorado State will also be without their interception leader from a season ago as V.J. Banks contributed 3 interceptions.

The Colorado Buffaloes will be looking to improve after going 5-7 during the 2018 season, and they will do so under new direction as Mel Tucker takes over the Buffs. The Buffaloes will return their QB Steven Montez who contributed 2849 passing yards, 19 TDs, and 9 interceptions last season. Montez will be without his leading rusher, but Laviska Shenault Jr. should have a big season as he pitched in 1011 receiving yards and 6 TDs last year.

The Colorado Buffaloes should be in much better shape on the defensive side of the ball as Mel Tucker was the mastermind of the Georgia Bulldogs top defenses. Nate Landman will once again be the head of the defense as the LB contributed a team-high 104 tackles and 2 interceptions last season. The pass rush should also be strong as Mustafa Johnson is looking to expand off his solid 2018 campaign where he pitched in 15.5 TFL and 7.5 sacks.

Free Betting Pick: Colorado Buffaloes -11

The Colorado Buffaloes have dominated the Colorado State Rams ATS as of recent as they have covered the spread in 3 of their last 4 meetings. The Colorado Buffaloes should be amped up to play under 1st-year coach Mel Tucker, and they bring back enough talent to remain competitive in the Pac-12. The offense should be strong with Montez and Shenault returning, but I am more excited to see the direction the defense takes. The Colorado State Rams were terrible during the 2018 season, and unfortunately, they lost most of their star players which gives me low expectations for them. Final Score Prediction, Colorado Buffaloes win and cover ATS 31-14.
